《太平御览》卷八三四引《阙子》：“ 魯人有好釣者，以桂爲餌，黄金之鈎，錯以銀碧，垂翡翠之綸，其持竿處位即是，然其得魚不幾矣。故曰，釣之務，不在芳飾。”后以“翠綸桂餌，反以失魚”指华而不实者必然事与愿违。南朝梁刘勰《文心雕龙·情采》：“是以聯辭結采，將欲明理，采濫辭詭，則心理愈翳。固知翠綸桂餌，反所以失魚。”
